Post-Secondary Program Selection

  • Anonymous Student

Seeing my strengths has guided me in choosing courses and possible majors in university. It is very helpful to have data that lets me weigh my skills against possible job opportunities.

Depending on the entry point with the students, the tool can help guide them in course, university programs, or ancillary training program selection. I stress the opportunity for students to consider their data and reports as they navigate post-secondary and see whether their choices are still valid or that they want to change.

The SuccessFinder confirmed our daugter’s strengths in math and science and provided some direction on which engineering path would be best suited for her. The results gave her the confidence that she had made the right decision and she is heading off to university with an improved career focusand a more positive outlook.

The Successfinder Career Focus results were so accurate for our older daughter that we used it again on our younger daughter. Again the results were spot on and described our daughter exactly. The results indicated strengths and interests in the liberal arts, but it also opened her eyes to new career options that she might not have thought of otherwise. The benefit of this is that she is able to adjust her high school schedule to choose courses that will be more beneficial to her in the long run.

The SuccessFinder career system and the one-hour consultation were extremely useful in reaffirming my passion for engineering and providing me with different career options in this field. In addition, the assessment also suggests alternative career paths outside engineering based on my traits. These alternative options allowed me to identify my non-engineering traits and gave me perspectives on how I can combine them to have a successful career.

I was thrilled to be given the opportunity to take the Successfinder assessment, and was overjoyed to see ‘Chemical Engineer’ and ‘Biologist’ in my top three recommended career options. What a reassurance it is to know that I am exactly where I should be.

The Successfinder assessment was unlike any career test I had taken in high school. These tests tended to ask general personality questions that rarely required me to think hard or really question what I would do in a difficult situation. Never was engineering suggested as a top option for me to consider.

Career Planning/Choices

It has been a great way to understand my strengths and weaknesses. What I enjoyed the most was learning what motivates me, and keeping this in mind while trying to pick a program/career has been very helpful.

When I completed SuccessFinder I was at a point where I knew I wanted to make a career change but was not exactly sure which path to take next. I had been in sports broadcasting for about five years at the time but felt as though I had stalled and was stuck in my current role and that a change was necessary due to the lack of advancement opportunities and available jobs in that field.

The SuccessFinder assessment helped clarify my strengths and weaknesses and ultimately pointed me toward the right career path/direction for me. Ultimately leading me to the fulfilling job that I take pride in today. SuccessFinder is a valuable tool guiding anyone at any point during their professional journey.

I am now working in the emergency communications field as a communicator, or more commonly known as a dispatcher for the Halton Regional Police Service. I have been with the service for over 5 years now and have recently taken on a new role as an acting supervisor in communications. I am also part of a training team that coaches and guides new communications staff in both call taking and dispatching when they come to the communications floor.

I would recommend SuccessFinder to others simply because it works. It’s a valuable tool that has worked for me and gave me direction when I needed it. SuccessFinder provides excellent insight for anyone trying to find a career, change career paths, or even further advance in their current field of work.

SuccessFinder was very accurate when it comes to predicting the best career fit for myself.

Endorsement from Educational Institutions

  • Marie-Jose Beaudin, Executive Director of the Career Management Service, McGill University

The SuccessFinder career assessment tool has become a key resource for our MBA students to understand their strengths and identify areas for personal growth and development.  The SuccessFinder results increase our students overall self-awareness level, a critical first step to building a long-term career strategy that leverages their natural abilities.

  • Alain Gosselin, Ph.D., Fellow CRHA Directeur de l'École des dirigeants, McGill-HEC Montréal EMBA Program

SuccessFinder)constituted a new addition to the "Reflective Mindset" module of the EMBA program of HEC-McGill. The quantitative feedback as well as subsequent coaching truly made an important difference in both the quality and depth of participants' introspection. A consensus was rapidly reached on the added value of Pathfinder and on our intention to integrate it permanently as part of our program.

As a leader in the educational innovation space, I have used a variety of tools to provide tangible value for my students. I strongly believe that today’s students need, more than ever, to understand their behavioural DNA and level of self-awareness.

I use the Successfinder tool to add rigor and discipline to the students’ information and understanding base.

Help in Job Interviews

What I took away from the SuccessFinder assessment was knowing what my vocational incentives were to knowing what the mandatory things are that I need in a workplace in order to thrive. That really helped me to be able to ask my interviewer about the company, culture and what it was like to work there. Fraternity is my biggest vocational incentive, so it was really key for me to be able to find out as much as I possibly could.

The SuccessFinder process forced me to act under really provoking questions, because I was interviewing for a few different roles that were all very similar -all Account Manager within the advertising field. For me, it was about finding the right company that I was really going to grow with for the future. So, finding those vocational incentives, I think, was what was going to set me apart from being really happy in one job versus another.

Affirmation of Best Career Choices

  • Sarah Latremoiile (Student)

I did an arts degree at Queens and then I did a masters of marketing when I was in Australia in my postgrad and I thought I knew I wanted to work in advertising.

SuccessFinder identified my best career fit as an account manager for customer service and account manager for sales. So when I saw that in my assessment, I thought, wow, this sort of just reaffirms to me that I am making the right choice. This is a good career move for me, and I have some evidence, here, that shows that I'm really going to be pretty successful at it.

I find the Successfinder tool to be a significant means for helping high school students understand their competencies, priorities, and motivations in the context of their school experience, career aspirations, and personal relationships with parents, teachers, and community.

Personal and Professional Development

The depth of the assessment provided insights I hadn't even considered — it gave some very interesting feedback on my personal skills.

It’s good to know my strongest skills and those I need to develop. Knowing these helps me make decisions about what I want to be involved in at school and work.

To see how high those scores were particularly ranked against some of my other traits was really, really powerful for me. The question is always in the back of my mind: how I can the best leverage those strengths and better utilize them? Those strengths in the workplace and in my personal life.

Coaching and Consultative Process and Expertise

  • Sarah Latremoiile (Student)

The consultative process along with the SuccessFinder was really helpful for me. Because, essentially, what happens when you complete the assessment is it's a huge stack of data and diagrams and a whole bunch of numbers. It's very detailed. They have very clear descriptions of each trait, and what everything means. I think it's a lot to digest on your own, just kind of reading that and taking that in by yourself.

  • York Region District School Board Representative

Over and above a survey that the students complete and the raw data that forms a report they receive, our students participate in a face-to-face consultation that helps them interpret the information and contextualizes their individual feedback.

  • Kevin and Diane Bateman (Parents)

The consultation to review the reports was an important part of the process. It helped to clarify some of the terms and further interpret the results. It was helpful being able to speak to someone directly to understand the report in more depth and to discuss the various options and choices available both now and, in the future.
